Getting Around Surfside

Navigating Surfside Beach: The RDR 4 Safety Guide

At RDR 4 Carts, we want you to spend your time making memories, not worrying about the rules. Since our fleet consists of Street-Legal Low Speed Vehicles (LSVs), they handle like a car and follow the same laws.

The "Golden Rule" of Navigation

You can drive on any street with a posted speed limit of 35 MPH or less.

  • Ocean Boulevard: 25 MPH—The perfect place for a slow-paced cruise.
  • Residential Streets: Most interior roads in Surfside are 25 MPH and fully accessible.

The Three Main Arteries (East to West)

To get from the beach (Ocean Blvd) to the shopping centers and restaurants near the highway, use these three designated through-ways. These are the only roads that safely funnel you across town:

  1. Surfside Drive: The "Heart of Town." Takes you straight to the Pier and downtown shops.
  2. 5th Avenue North: By the Circle K and CVS
  3. 10th Avenue South: The reliable connector for those staying on the south end of town.

CRITICAL SAFETY NOTE: You are prohibited from driving on Highway 17 and business 17. However, you are legally allowed to cross over Business 17 at any designated traffic signal to reach businesses on the other side.

Quick Safety Checklist

  • Driver’s License: All operators must be at least 21 years old and carry a valid driver’s license.
  • Rules of the Road: Treat your LSV like a car. Obey all stop signs, signals, and right-of-way laws.
  • Seatbelts: Children under 12 must be buckled in by law. For adults, while the law technically applies to LSVs, use your best judgment for your own safety.
  • Night Driving: Yes! Our carts have full LED headlights and turn signals. You are street-legal 24 hours a day on approved roads.
  • DUI Laws: This is serious. An LSV is a motor vehicle. DUI laws are strictly enforced exactly like a standard car. Please stay safe and don't drink and drive.

Parking Like a Local

  • Pay-to-Park: Be sure to pay at kiosks or via phone apps in designated lots from March 1st – October 31st.
  • Off-Roading: Never drive on sidewalks, bike paths, or the beach itself.
